The Family Tree is the first of two YA novellas I have been illustrating by the much admired author Mal Peet. The story is formed from the memories of a young man as he looks back at a time in his childhood when his father builds him a treehouse in an ancient Beech in their garden. Though the boy’s memories are full of golden Summer light and special moments between him and his dad, there is a sadness to the story as the boy’s father begins to retreat from the world, and from his family.
