Good Boy

Nominated for the Kate Greenaway Prize 2020

Good Boy is the second of two novellas I have illustrated by celebrated author Mal Peet. This is the mysterious story of a girl’s recurring nightmare about an enormous black dog which haunts her at different times in her life. Because the meaning of the dream is ambiguous, I was able to be quite inventive with my illustrations, creating a backstory which I hint at in small details in the book. I especially loved creating the mother daughter relationship.

My drawings were created using a mixture of ink, watercolour and charcoal which provided a soft, dreamlike quality to some of the elements in the illustrations.
